Latisse is an eye medication developed by Allergan to create thicker and fuller lashes.  It received FDA-approval for this indication last month, although the compound, bimatoprost, has been in use since 2001 for the treatment of glaucoma.  Users of the medication noted coincidentally increased eyelash growth, so a study assessing its use for increasing eyelash growth was undertaken. This scenario is similar to that of Botox, which was initially used therapeutically to treat crossing of the eyes (strabismus) but fortuitously was noted to decrease wrinkles.

Latisse will be available through TMD Medi-Spa after the product launch by Allergan.  The most common side-effect was irritation, occuring in 4% of study patients.  Temporary eyelid discoloration also occurred occasionally.
